How Currency Conversion Works

Exchange rates express how much one currency is worth in another. This converter stores each currency's rate against the US dollar and calculates any pair using the cross rate: amount × (rate of target ÷ rate of source). Rates are updated daily from market data.

Example

If 1 USD = 0.92 EUR, then converting 100 USD to euros gives 100 × 0.92 = 92 EUR. Converting between two non-dollar currencies uses each one's dollar rate as the bridge.

Why Rates Change

Currency values move constantly with supply and demand, interest rates and economic news. The rate you see here is a daily reference, not a live trading quote.

Rates are for informational purposes only and are not a trading or transfer quote. Confirm with your bank before any transaction.

Frequently Asked Questions

Each currency has a rate against the US dollar. To convert between any two currencies, the tool divides the target currency's dollar rate by the source currency's dollar rate — the cross rate.

Rates are refreshed daily from market data. They are a reference figure and are not live, second-by-second trading quotes.

It is a good estimate, but banks and money-transfer services add margins and fees, so the rate you receive will differ. Always confirm the final rate with your provider.
